More on CW Zouave Styles

This is a drawing from Godey's Lady's Book. This is a Zouave style from 1859. I am sorry that it is a little bit blurry, but at least you can see the major outline.

Civil War Era Ladies

This is a drawing of several ladies dressed in the characteristic Zouave style that was typical of the 1850-60s. Apparently, this is from 1854, because if you look at the bottom left corner of the drawing, you will see, in tiny script that it says 1854. Of course, this is more fantasy than reality (especially if you look at the ladies' waists) , but to me this is very beautiful! Click on the heading of this, and you will go to the neatest page. That is where I got this picture.

A Honey Bee

~ A honey bee pollonating a flower~
Grains of pollen sticking to this bee will be transferred to the next flower, thus pollonating it. Birds and bees are common pollonators. Some times even bats and flies can be pollonators if the scent of the flower appeals to them. Some flower give out the smell that represents rotten meat, flies come, and they get pollen on their fur. Then they go to the next flower taking pollen with them and becoming pollenators. God certainly designed our world well!!

Stargazer Lily

This is a stargazer lily. This is my older brother's favorite flower. I think that it is mine too. Isn't it beautiful!!

Civil War Reenacting

Hello! Check out the clothing emporium in the links. Even if you have to travel as far as we do to get there, if you are interested in period clothing, it is worth it. I have not written in a while, and I feel bad about that. I am a Civil War Reenactor. My brother and I reenact together as a brother-sister pair. I am living history, which means that I do not participate in mock battles. I have a dress that barely fits me, even though I made it only a year ago. I am really growing. I will soon be making a new dress. It will either be a Zouave style or a day dress with cap sleeves. I have yet to decide which one I will do.I will also be making a coat (called a palatote during the Civil War) with grey/black felt and bright blue trim. I do not yet have a hoop, but I have several petticoats which help to poof out my skirt.
My brother is a soldier. He has a 1861 Springfield (repro.) that weighs 10 pounds. It is really heavy. They do not fire bullets (of course), but they do fire powder and caps. He also wears a muslin shirt with suspenders. He says that the suspenders are hard to get used to, and I can imagine! He wears woolen pants and an itchy coat. Over his coat he wears his belt which holds his coat in place. He attaches his powder box and his bayonet to a strap that he wears over one shoulder. He also has to wear a canteen with which he can drink out of in the heat of the battle.
We both get to go three reenactments a year. I cannot wait until the next reenactment coming next year.

This is my favorite plane. The P-26 Peashooter was a very efficient little plane during WWII. I will post more about it later.

What I Believe

I believe that we are all sinners. I believe that Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a perfect life, died to save us from our sins, and on the third day he rose from the dead. The Bible says "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8. If you do not agree with me, I am sorry. Maybe you should stop reading this blog, for I stand on the Word of the Bible.

Beautiful Girlhood

Hi! My name is Rebecca. I am thirteen years old (almost fourteen). I am a Civil War reenactor. Besides that, I enjoy flute, piano, dulcimer, sewing, reading, knitting, quilting, cooking, playing with our animals, and working with my cow Nanette (Nanny). Since we live on a farm I am able to gather eggs and run an egg business with my 2 brothers. I enjoy spending time with my grandparents. My favorite subject is history; I like to collect old stamps and coins. I have been homeschooled all my life, and I really enjoy the Christian heritage and legacy that my parents are passing on from generation to generation. Just for your information, 'Filia Deus Gloria' means Daughter for the Glory of God in Latin.

Today I am just reflecting on how wonderful it is to be in the stage of life called "beautiful girlhood". Except for a really bad infection in my big toe on my right foot, I am really in the perfect stage of my life. My infection has made me realize how really blessed I am to have wonderful parents, two wonderful brothers, good food, warm clothes, and nice home, a funny, clownish cat named Mittens, and our family's dog, Anna.
Yesterday, we washed Anna, and she hates to be washed! Yesterday, however, she was so sweet while we washed her. She just stood there and lifted her paw for us to wash it when we wanted her to!
We live on a farm in the Midwest where we have 30 head of cattle (beef), several cats, Anna( our Great Pyrenees dog), and about 30 chickens. The chickens live in a little barn on wheels; we call it a chicken tractor, because we pull it with a tractor. We are currently harvesting our beans on our farm.
I love to cook! My mom jokes and says that the only things that I know how to cook is desserts (that is, healthy ones). I also love to fry our own organic grassfed(partly) eggs. I can make good salads, soups, and sandwiches. Also I got a new waffle maker from a friend and neighbor. I will put it to good use during Thanksgiving!
